Nebraska State Treasurer John Murante says he wants a second four year term. Murante announced Monday he will seek re-election. “It’s been an honor of a life time to serve as state treasurer and earn the trust of the people of our state,” Murante told Jack Riggins on LNK Today.
Murante touted the success over the past four years of the College Savings Program. “I brought my small business background and we negotiated our contract and was able to successfully negotiate a 70 percent fee reduction and the program is absolutely soaring beyond anyone’s expectations I think.”
He says for a state of 1.9 million people they have $7 billion saved for college education. “That’s $7 billion of student loan debt that our kids won’t have, I think it’s absolutely fantastic.”
Murante says he’s also proud of the work they’ve done to return unclaimed property to Nebraskans. He was first elected treasurer in 2018 while serving as a state senator from Gretna. No other candidates have announced plans to run for office.
