Nebraska Women Still Perfect After Win at Minnesota

By Kaleb Henry Dec 6, 2021 | 9:16 PM

Nebraska women’s basketball is off to the second-best start in program history.

The Huskers improved to 9-0 on the season, and 1-0 in the Big Ten Conference, with their Monday win at Minnesota (6-5, 0-1 Big Ten) 70-67.

Nebraska raced out to a 25-14 first quarter lead on 62 percent shooting, but Minnesota shot back to make in a one possession game at the half.

The Huskers held the lead for most of the second half, but the Gophers took a four-point lead with 4:34 to go. That’s when Bella Cravens hit a shot to spark an 11-4 run. Sam Haiby made both of her free throws with 11 seconds to go to seal the game, making their last second layup moot.

Four Huskers scored in double-digits, led by Jaz Shelley and Cravens each pouring in 15. Haiby scored 13 points, while Issie Bourne added 10.

The 9-0 start ties the 1997-98 team for second-best in program history. Only the 2009-10 team had a better start.

Nebraska returns home for a trio of games to close out the non-conference schedule, beginning with Indiana State Saturday.
