Lincoln Police are investigating a scam involving a 91 year old woman. She reported to officers that between November 16th and the 19th, she received several phone calls from someone pretending to be from Wells Fargo Bank.
Over a four day period, the scammer convinced the woman to withdraw money from her bank account and purchase gift cards from Hy-Vee and give them the card codes.
The total loss to the victim totaled $17,500.
Lincoln Police send this reminder that similar scams happen every day in our community. Instructions to buy gift cards is almost always not a legitimate request. Police say end that call and contact the business or organization directly.
