An arrest is made after a shot was fired inside a home around 2 Monday morning near 16th and Washington Street. The victim told police that 31 year old Robert Rodriguez was visiting his home and they got into an argument. The victim asked Rodriguez to leave. Instead, he pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the victim and fired a shot into the door. Rodriguez was gone when police arrived.
Rodriguez was found to have three outstanding warrants for narcotics, theft and for carrying a concealed weapon.
Officers spotted Rodriguez riding in a vehicle near 2nd and Belmont around 1 p.m. Monday. Members of the Fugitive Task Force saw Rodriguez get out of the vehicle and run. While giving chase they saw Rodriguez throw a handgun and a backpack. He was soon taken into custody without further incident.
Officers recovered a handgun that matched the evidence found at the scene of the shooting. Officers also located his backpack that contained burglar’s tools such as bolt cutters, a Sawzall, commercial keys, a headlamp, pry bar screwdrivers, a wrench, and a flashlight. Inside was also a machete with a 12 inch blade and ammunition.
Rodriguez was booked for terroristic threats, use of a weapon to commit a felony, carrying a concealed weapon – 2nd subsequent offence, possession of burglary tools and obstructing a police officer.
