Downtown Lincoln businesses are gearing up for a big Black Friday. Todd Ogden with the Downtown Lincoln Association is hoping the Nebraska-Iowa game will give businesses a boost to start the holiday season.
“Having more heads downtown and more events going on, obviously more than we had last year, is important. We still want to continue to push that narrative to buy local and shop downtown,” Ogden says.
He says Black Friday is a little different for their downtown boutiques and gift shops. “It’s kind of spread out a little bit more, a lot of people do more of the larger department shopping.” But Ogden says having a home football game is a great opportunity for downtown businesses. “That just puts more people into a spot where they’re aware of what businesses are available and maybe peek in the window and find something fun to buy, whether it’s for themselves or a gift for the holiday season.”
In another effort to get more people into the downtown area for the holidays, they will be launching the Lincoln North Pole at Tower Square next week. It will include Santa’s workshop, holiday lights and a chance to decorate Christmas trees.
