A disastrous start was too much for Nebraska baseball to overcome as K-State built an 11-2 lead through the first three innings and never looked back in a 12-6 KSU victory Tuesday in Manhattan, Kan. The loss was the Cornhuskers’ sixth in the last nine games.
Nebraska had runners at second and third and no one out in the top of the fifth. But the Wildcats turned away NU with a ground out, a fielder’s choice at the plate and a strikeout. Then in the bottom of the first, K-State converted three Husker errors into five runs. After Nebraska plated two in the top of the second, the Wildcats answered with four in the bottom of the second, then two more in the bottom of the third.
The Huskers chipped away with two in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth. After K-State scored in the seventh, NU tallied two in the top of the eighth but drew no closer.
Carson Jasa took the loss for Nebraska, allowing eight runs (three earned) in one inning. Case Sanderson paced the Huskers at the plate, hitting 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBI.
Nebraska returns home to take on No. 5 Oregon State Friday at 7:02 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on KLIN.
