Man Chases Away Suspect Trying to Steal Second Vehicle

By Tom Stanton Mar 17, 2025 | 12:08 PM

Lincoln Police say a man took matter into his own hands after his GMC Acadia was stolen from the driveway of his home near S. Cottner and Normal Blvd. Sunday morning.  Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says the victim reported his vehicle was stolen around 8:00 a.m.

“Keys to his wife’s Kia were in the GMC making the victim think the suspect may return to steal the Kia,” Thomas says.   “The victim kept watch when the suspect returned trying to steal the Kia about 45 minutes later.”

Thomas says the victim chased after him on foot, but the suspect got into the man’s stolen GMC and drove away.  “The victim was armed with a handgun and a witness reported hearing a gunshot fired as the GMC drove off,” Thomas says.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600, report online at lincolncrimestoppers.com or download the free P3 app.
