14-Year-Old Arrested After Crashing Stolen Pickup

Lincoln Police took two teenagers into custody Sunday night in connection with a stolen vehicle case.  Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says around 6:45 p.m. a man reported his 2006 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck had been stolen from the area of S. 40th and Randolph streets.

“His wallet, cash, ID credit cards and two car seats were inside the vehicle for a total estimated loss of almost $2,400,” Thomas says.  The NSP Airwing located the vehicle near 21st and ‘L’ streets about two hours later and officers attempted a traffic stop.

“The driver of the vehicle quickly accelerated, left the paved road and collided with a concrete wall.”  Thomas says the 14-year-old driver and 13-year-old passenger jumped out and ran off.  Officers eventually took both teens into custody near 24th and ‘L’ streets.

The 14-year-old taken to the Youth Services Center.  He was referred for theft by unlawful taking, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and obstructing a police officer.  The 13-year-old male  was referred for theft by unlawful taking and obstructing a police officer.
