Nebraska State Troopers took 12 impaired drivers off the road during the first weekend of this year’s NSAA State Basketball tournaments. The Patrol says those arrests occurred between March 5 and March 8.
Troopers also stopped 18 drivers for speeding at 100 miles per hour or more. “Last week’s winter storm provided an additional challenge to those traveling across the state for this year’s state basketball tournaments,” says Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. “As teams continue to work hard for state titles, our troopers and dispatchers will continue to keep fans safe as they travel to cheer on their teams.”
In addition to the 12 people arrested for driving under the influence, troopers issued 307 speeding citations, including 18 to drivers who were going 100 miles per hour or more. Troopers also assisted 358 motorists in need of assistance on the road.
Troopers will continue the special enforcement operation through NSAA Boys State Basketball tournament, which starts on Wednesday and runs through Saturday. The enforcement effort is made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office.
