Monday’s forecast is for warm and windy conditions with a high approaching 80 degrees.  Temperatures will remain above normal for the next several days.

Very high to extreme fire danger will be possible Monday with warm, dry conditions and gusty winds which has prompted a Red Flag Warning. (see below)

Rain chances return Friday into next weekend as a strong storm system moves through the region.

…RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 8 PM CDT MONDAY FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR PORTIONS OF EASTERN NEBRASKA AND SOUTHWEST IOWA…

The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from noon to 8 PM CDT Monday.

The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

* AFFECTED AREA…Boone, Platte, Colfax, Dodge, Washington, Butler, Saunders, Douglas, Sarpy, Seward, Lancaster, Cass, Otoe, Pottawattamie, Saline, Mills, Montgomery, Jefferson, Gage, Fremont, Johnson, Page, Nemaha, Pawnee, and Richardson Counties.

* WINDS…Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY…As low as 14 percent.

* IMPACTS…Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Outdoor burning is not recommended.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
