A former Lincoln Police officer is cited for 3rd degree assault after an incident dating back to October 31st at Bryan West.
Lincoln Police Acting Chief Brian Jackson says Benjamin Rieker was working of-duty at the hospital when he came in contact with a 51 year old man who caused a disturbance. The victim was leaving the hospital and again was contacted by Rieker who is accused of shoving him without provocation. The victim lost his footing, fell and struck his head. He refused medical treatment.
The Lincoln Police Department was informed of the incident and after speaking with witnesses and watching hospital video, They contacted the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office by Lincoln Police Department on November 12th and an internal investigation then started on November 19th.
Rieker was placed on unpaid leave for 30 days followed by a modified schedule. He resigned on January 26 and was cited for assault on Tuesday. Rieker had been with the department for 18 months.
