An LPD investigation is underway after a vehicle was broken into sometime before 9 a.m. Monday, November 15th near 21st and Superior. The victim told police that overnight, someone entered his vehicle that was parked on the street and took three pistols, two rifles, a custom sword and several custom knives. The thieves gained entry through a partially cracked passenger window. The estimated loss of the items taken totaled $17,000. The sword alone is valued at $10,000.

Officers processed the scene and continue reviewing video from that area. The owner of another vehicle reported to police a break in in the 2200 block of Dodge Street around the same time but nothing was missing.

At 4 p.m. Monday, police were called to Campbell Elementary School after a firearm was located. A parent found a .25 caliber pistol in a box on the sidewalk on the south side of the school. LPS called police and the firearm was turned over. That handgun had been taken from the vehicle parked near 21st and Superior.
