The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department says three puppies were killed after a pair of outbuildings caught fire near Hickman around 5:30 Monday night. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says deputies and volunteer firefighters Ben Houchin says deputies responded along with firefighters from Hickman, Firth and Southeast.
“When they arrived a 30 X 40 pole building on fire along with a smaller 10 x 10 building.” Houchin says both buildings were close to each other and were destroyed. “The really sad thing there were three Doberman Pinscher puppies that were in there and they think the reason why the fire started is they knocked over the heat lamp.”
Houchin says both buildings were destroyed along with about $5,000 in tools. Total damage is estimated at $25,000 and the Nebraska State Fire Marshal is investigating.
