A 35-year-old man wanted for stealing a vehicle didn’t go quietly when officers tried to arrest him Monday evening. LPD Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says an officer was in the area of 14th and ‘F’ around 5:00 and saw a man acting suspiciously and wiping down a vehicle.
The officer identified the man as Moises Garcia, who was responsible for stealing a 2013 blue Range Rover from Tire Depot near 27th and Randolph on January 23. It was recovered the
same day.
Thomas says the officer recognized Garcia’s picture from Crime Stoppers. On Monday evening the officer saw the handle of a very large knife in Garcia’s pants pocket. “They made contact with Garcia and instructed him to turn around and put his hands behind his back,” Thomas says.
“Garcia ignored the commands and continued doing so as a second officer arrived.” Thomas says the second officer deployed their Taser and Garcia fell to the ground, but began getting up. The first officer then deployed their Taser, incapacitating Garcia.
He was then taken into custody with no further issues. The knife was found laying in the grass. Garcia was taken to the Lancaster County Jail and booked for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, resisting arrest and theft by unlawful taking of more than $5,000.
