Man Arrested For Assaulting LPD Officer Outside Bar

By Tom Stanton Jan 27, 2025 | 2:06 PM

A man was arrested after a Lincoln Police officer was assaulted outside a bar Sunday night.  LPD Public Information Officer Erica Thomas says just before 8:00 officers were called to Bar 48 near 48th and St. Paul for a man throwing punches at employees.

“While the man was being placed in the backseat of a police cruiser, he began kicking the back door and did not stop when told to do so,” Thomas says.  “He was then put in leg restraints and kicked the door again extremely hard, forcing it to quickly open, striking the officer on the top of the head.”

27-year-old Elevit Benitez of Lincoln was taken to the Lancaster County Jail where his blood alcohol level was .25, more than three times the legal limit.  He was booked for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
