Two out of state men have been arrested in connection with a counterfeit bill operation. LPD Public Information Officer Erica Thomas says the first incident happened Sunday night at the Walgreens near 27th and Vine.
“Officers determined 29-year-old Luis Adames of Houston, Texas, had passed a counterfeit $100 bill,” Thomas says. “He was contacted at the cash register when he returned to make another purchase with a counterfeit bill.” Adames was taken to the Lancaster County Jail.
During that investigation, Thomas says officers also determined 47-year-old Alexander Perez of Miami, Florida and Adames were responsible for passing a counterfeit $100 bill at the Walmart near 27th and Superior.
“Officers contacted Perez at a motel and found a printer, copy paper and other materials used in manufacturing counterfeit money,” Thomas says. He was taken into custody and to the Lancaster
County Jail where he was booked for forgery. Adames was arrested on two counts of forgery.
“All the counterfeit bills were recovered and had the same serial number,” Thomas says. “We believe there may be other businesses impacted and anyone who believes they’ve been defrauded is asked to reach out to LPD by calling 402-441-6000.
