Three teenagers are accused of stealing items from one vehicle and driving away in a second one in southwest Lincoln late Friday night.  Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says video showed the trio checking the door handles of vehicles in a driveway near SW 26th Street and W. Apricot Lane.

“Video footage showed three people enter the driveway and check the door handles of the parked vehicles,” Thomas says.  “Some cash and several personal belongings were taken
from an unlocked 2024 black GMC Sierra pickup truck, with a total value of more than $600.”

Thomas says the teenagers then got into a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was unlocked with its keys inside. They started the vehicle and drove off.  “Shortly after, a Lincoln police sergeant observed the vehicle near 24th and West ‘A’ Streets, about a half mile away,” Thomas says.

“When he tried to initiate a traffic stop, the three individuals ran off on foot. Officers immediately set up a perimeter and conducted a K9 track. All three were found and taken into custody.”  A 14-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy were referred and booked into the Youth Services Center for theft by unlawful taking $5000 or more.
