Now that we are into a new year Lincoln Police have announced a renewed effort to catch red light runners and stop sign violators. LPD says officers will focus on intersections and areas where these violations are most common.
“Red light and stop sign violations are a serious concern in Lincoln, contributing to accidents, injuries, and even fatalities,” says Public Information Officer Erika Thomas. “During the winter months, it becomes even more important to ensure drivers give themselves plenty of time and space to stop safely at intersections.”
LPD urges all drivers to remain attentive and follow the rules of the road to keep streets safe. “Drivers should be aware that law enforcement will be actively patrolling these areas and that violations will result in fines and penalties,” Thomas says.
The project is made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
