A Lincoln police officer is recovering after an assault Sunday night at the U-Stop at 946 S 27th Street.
An employee reported to police that a man who was banned from the store was arguing with him after eating a hot dog and a snack cake without paying for it. An officer arrived and spoke with 38 year old Jason Nelson who started yelling at the officer and threw food on the floor. The officer explained he was under arrest and tried to take him into custody.
Nelson turned aggressive and assaulted the officer by punching, spitting and grabbing her. The officer deployed a Taser but continued to struggle with Nelson until other officers arrived and together they took him into custody. Nelson was taken to a hospital to be checked out due to the Taser deployment. Inside Nelson’s coat pocket officers found a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine residue.
Nelson was arrested for Assault on a Police Officer, Resist Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Assault with Bodily Fluid on a Police Officer, Theft by Unlawful Taking, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 1st Degree Criminal Trespassing as well as an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The officer sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
