The Salvation Army has currently raised 51 percent of the 2024 Tree of Lights Campaign goal of $650,000 and they are hoping to raise a lot more through “Lincoln Match Week.” Captain Kelsie Moreno says between December 17 -24 all donations to the iconic red kettles will be matched up to $20,000.
“We’re grateful to the generous donors that came together this Christmas to sponsor this match and encourage others to give, Moreno says. “Donations to the Tree of Lights campaign help those in need not only at Christmas time, but all year long. We are able to serve Lincoln tomorrow because of what people give today.”
In addition, The Salvation Army has once again received a valuable gold coin in one of their red kettles. The anonymous donor donated the coin in hopes of inspiring others in Lincoln to give generously as the 2024 Tree of Lights Campaign wraps up.
“The American Gold Buffalo Coin is one ounce of pure gold and was donated in the red kettle at Scheels in Lincoln, Moreno says. The value of the coin is over $2,500. The Salvation Army will also be distributing Christmas food baskets and toys to pre-registered applicants on December 19-20th
Over 2,500 individuals have registered for holiday help this year. Angel Tree donations are still being accepted through December 19th with the biggest need being gifts for children ages 10-12. Toys can be dropped off at 2625 Potter between the hours of 9 am – 4 p.m. For those wishing to give online, donations can be made at www.lincolnredkettle.org.
