Matt Talbot Kitchen & Outreach hosted their second annual Shine the Light walk on December 8 at Antelope Park to raise awareness about the challenges faced by people experiencing unsheltered homelessness during the winter.
Over 100 walkers participated and more than $7,000 was raised to support outreach and homeless prevention services at Matt Talbot. “We believe that homelessness is a solvable problem,” says executive director Alynn Sampson. “This walk is a unique way to increase compassion and bring awareness to how our community is working to end homelessness.”
Participants walked an illuminated path through the park. Signs posted throughout the course provided walkers the opportunity to learn about Matt Talbot, homelessness and how to help. Donations of blankets were collected at the walk and are still being accepted at Matt Talbot through the winter months.
Donations can be dropped off Monday – Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at Matt Talbott near 27th and Leighton.
