Lincoln Police say a month long impaired driving traffic enforcement campaign is working.  Public Information Officer Erika Thomas says through December 8 there were 38 DUI’s compared to 26 at the same time last year.

There were 11 drivers cited for being under the influence on December 8, the most DUIs in one night in December since at least 2018.  For 12 suspects, Thomas says it was at least their 2nd offense DUI.

Thomas says so far the SW, SE and NE teams have all have had 10 DUIs and NW has had 8.   The effort is part of the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign and includes extra officers working overtime through a grant from the Nebraska Highway Safety Office.

“We have all of our folks out there working diligently to hold those accountable who are driving under the influence,” Thomas says.  “We don’t want to see numbers go up because that means there are more people out on the roads impaired.”

The enforcement effort will end December 31.
