On Thursday, July 9th, 2020, at approximately 4:26 p.m., LPD officers responded to the 1500 block of South 20th Street on a report an assault involving a handgun. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 28-year-old male victim, who advised that he’d been involved in a text message argument with two acquaintances, one of whose brother wanted to fight him. The victim arrived home and waited for this adult male to show up at his house for a mutual fight. When the male arrived (with two associates), the victim and the male engaged in a mutual fight, during which the victim knocked the male to the ground. When the victim approached the male laying on the ground, two of the male’s associates lifted their shirts to reveal a handgun in their waistbands. The three individuals got into a vehicle and drove a short distance down an alley, but then stopped, whereupon a male fired a single shot back in the direction of the victim. The vehicle fled the scene. Officers interviewed the victim and witnesses, recovered a single shell casing from the scene, and processed the scene for digital and forensic evidence. This investigation is ongoing.
