No. 2 Nebraska volleyball earned the No. 2 national seed in the 2024 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship and would host all the way through the regional finals should they advance that far. Their first opponent will be Florida A&M, which won both the SWAC regular season and tournament championships. First serve of that match is set for 7 p.m. Friday, with pregame coverage starting at 6 p.m. on B-107.3 and KLIN. South Dakota State and Miami will play in the first game of the regional at the Devaney Center Friday, with first serve slated for 4:30 p.m. The winners of those matches would square off Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
The Rattlers, 27-6 overall, rolled to a 16-0 record in the SWAC and have won 10 straight matches entering the NCAA Tournament. Florida A&M didn’t play a Power 4 conference foe this season and they were swept by South Dakota State early in the season in Atlanta. The Rattlers are one of the toughest serving teams in the country, ranking fifth in Division I with 2.11 aces per set. They’ve also been one of the toughest defensive teams in the country, with opponents hitting .142 against them, the sixth-lowest opponent hitting percentage in the country. The other half of the sub-regional features South Dakota State (27-2), one of the last four teams to be selected to the field, against Miami (21-10).
The No. 2 seed in the Huskers’ regional is Wisconsin, who Nebraska has swept twice, with Arizona State named the No. 3 seed. NU swept the Sun Devils on Sept. 13 at the Devaney Center. Baylor is the No. 4 seed in the regional, with Dayton the No. 5 seed and Texas A&M the No. 6 seed.
ACC Champion Pitt secured the No. 1 national seed, while Big Ten co-champion Penn State was named the No. 3 national seed. Louisville was named the No. 4 seed, meaning the Cardinals, coached by former Husker Dani Busboom-Kelly, will not have to travel at all to win the national title, with the national semifinals and national finals being held in Louisville, Ky.
