A three-point shooting barrage by Creighton defeated No. 21 Nebraska, 80-74, Saturday at the Sokol Center in Omaha. The loss was the Huskers’ (5-1) first of the season in the first game for NU without reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year Natalie Potts, who sustained a season-ending injury in Nebraska’s last game Tuesday against North Alabama.
The Bluejays (2-2) were 13-of-29 shooting from behind the arc, led by Lauren Jensen, who was CU’s leading scorer with 31 points on four three-pointers, while Molly Mogensen hit four threes and scored 12 points. Morgan Maly added 18 points on 7-for-18 shooting from the field.
Meanwhile, Alexis Markowski turned in a double-double, the 42nd of her Husker career, with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Britt Prince added 20. But no other Husker scored more than nine, and Nebraska’s 5-for-17 shooting from three-point range wasn’t enough to overcome the Jays. In the game, Markowski pulled down her 1,000th career rebound, making her the sixth Husker in school history with 1,000 career boards.
The game was hotly contested throughout, with 11 ties and 16 lead changes. Nebraska led 37-35 at half and 55-52 through three quarters before Creighton rallied in the fourth quarter to down the Huskers.
Nebraska is next in action Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena against Kansas City. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on KLIN and B-107.3.
