Lincoln Police say at least six vehicles have been stolen in recent days from southeast Lincoln and in each case the vehicles were unlocked with the keys inside.  “We want to remind drivers to please lock their vehicles and do not leave your keys in the car, especially as the weather begins to turn colder and you may be warming up your vehicle before driving it,” says Public Information Officer Erika Thomas.

“We understand the impact on a family that dealing with a stolen vehicle presents, in terms of getting to work, school and other obligations.” Thomas says LPD wants to help prevent as many people as possible from becoming a potential victim.

“So, we urge everyone to take those few extra seconds at their destination or at home to secure their belongings, move any valuables out of sight, lock your car and
take the keys with you.”

Thomas says during the fall months in when they see higher numbers of auto thefts.  There were 97 thefts reported in October, second only to February this year. October 2023 saw 106 stolen vehicles, the highest month of that year.

November 2022 saw 109 thefts, the highest month of that year. Anyone with information on any recent stolen vehicle is asked to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or to remain anonymous, please call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
