Senior forward Alexis Markowski set a school record with her 41st career double-double as she led Nebraska women’s basketball to a dominant 88-48 win over Omaha Monday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena in the season opener for both teams.
Markowski, a Lincoln native, led the Huskers with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Five other Nebraska players scored in double digits. That includes freshman guard Britt Prince, who tallied 10 points and five assists in her much-anticipated debut. Natalie Potts tallied 14 points as well, while Allison Weidner pitched in 11. Logan Nissley came off the bench to score 12 points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the field, including a made three, while hitting all five free throws. Petra Bozan was nearly as efficient in her Husker debut, posting 12 points on five-of-seven shooting, including two made three-pointers.
The Huskers removed all drama from the game in a first half in which they ran up a 47-15 lead, cashing in 15 Mavericks turnovers for 23 points. Conversely, Omaha tallied just two points off 10 NU turnovers.
Nebraska now prepares to face Southeastern Louisiana Saturday at 1 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at noon on B-107.3.
