Lincoln Police say an officer on patrol near Centennial Mall and ‘M’ Street was stopped around 3:30 Friday morning by a 21-year-old man who said he was drunk and had crashed his car. “When the officer went to the scene he saw the vehicle was approximately 30 yards south of the intersection in the middle of a parked area with a pole knocked down.”

There were tire tracks in the grassy area just north of the State Capitol. Thomas says the driver’s blood alcohol level was .198, more than two times the legal limit.

He was cited and released for first offense DUI, open alcohol beverage in a vehicle and negligent driving.
