On Monday Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird presented the Annual Mayor’s Award of Excellence for 2020 to Shane Dostal, Senior Traffic Technician from the LTU Engineering Services.
The award presentations for 2020 were postponed due to the pandemic and recognize City employees who consistently provide exemplary service and work that demonstrates personal commitment to the City.
Gaylor Baird says in the spring of 2020 Dostal managed traffic coordination and messaging associated with the COVID-19 testing sites. With most employees teleworking, she says Dostal also put up the barricades for Parks and Recreation and LTU street closures and became the primary contact for contractors on City projects.
Because these activities were outside his normal duties, Dostal was required to be on-call at all hours. This resulted in significant cost savings. Dostal will receive a $250 gift certificate, two days off with pay and a plaque.
The 2020 Honorable Mention Award was presented to Sergeant Dustin Romshek of Lincoln Police Department Operations Division. Romshek was awarded for his work in 2019 and 2020 on cases involving out-of-care and missing children.
The other categories in which employees can be nominated are valor and loss prevention. Consideration also may be given to nominations that demonstrate self-initiated accomplishments or those completed outside of the nominee’s job description. All City employees are eligible for the award except for elected and appointed officials.
The 2020 award ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic.
