About 2,300 Lincoln voters have had their polling places changed as the Nov. 5 General Election draws near.

The Lancaster County Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen announced Thursday, two voter precincts in the City of Lincoln will move to different locations for the upcoming statewide general election.

Precinct 10 D-8 — Voters who previously voted at the Van Dorn Villa will be temporarily voting at Heartland Bible Church, located at 2611 S 56th St. — about 0.7 miles away from original location, 2 min drive/15 min walk.

The Van Dorn Villa was damaged in a recent water main break. Approximately 1,040 voters will be impacted by this change.

Precinct 12 G-2 — Voters who previously voted at the Nebraska Safety Council will be voting at Lincoln North Star High School, located at 5801 N 33rd St. — about 0.9 miles away from original location, 3 min drive/20 min walk.

The Nebraska Safety Council notified our office that their building owners are unwilling to host election activities. Approximately 1,330 voters will be impacted by this change.

Notices of these changes will be mailed to all voters impacted on Friday, September 20th. Affected voters should expect to receive their new polling place notices in their mailboxes next week. Signs will also be used on election day to direct affected voters to their new polling place. Early voters in the impacted precincts will receive the notice for informational purposes only.

“These changes are regrettable and beyond our control” said Wiltgen. “We would not be changing these polling places if it were up to us.” Secretary of State Bob Evnen approved the changes since they occurred between the statewide primary and statewide general elections.

Wiltgen said while this is an unfortunate turn of events, this is a good opportunity for voters to refresh their memory on their po0lling locations. Voters looking for the most recent information about their polling place may search their current residential address on the Nebraska Voter Information Lookup site at ne.gov/go/votercheck.

These polling place notices are not an acceptable form of identification for Nebraska’s new voter ID requirement that went into effect this year. For more information about Nebraska Voter ID requirements, visit voterid.nebraska.gov.
