Man Shot To Death In Downtown Lincoln Identified

By Tom Stanton Sep 9, 2024 | 1:25 PM

Lincoln Police continue to investigate a deadly shooting near 11th and ‘O’ Street around 1:30 Sunday morning.  Assistant Chief Jason Stille says a fight broke out and one person was assaulting several people outside a bar.

He says that led to several other fights and eventually gunfire.  “Officers located two men with gunshot wounds.  Despite life-saving measures, 24-year-old Saiveon Hopkins, of Lincoln, passed away a few hours after being transported to the hospital.”  Stille says Hopkins was shot in the chest.

A 40-year-old man suffered minor injuries. He is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or have video of it to share it with them.  “We’ve got some video we’ have been able to view,” Stille says. “In that video, I see there were a lot of people running video so we do believe there is more video out there that show different vantage points.”

Stille says they believe the shooting wasn’t related to the football game on Saturday night.    Anyone with information or video of the shooting is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.

This was the sixth shooting death in Lincoln this year.
