Free Wood Chip Mulch Available at Three Lincoln Parks

By Chase Porter Sep 4, 2024 | 4:17 PM

Need any mulch?

The Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department has free wood chip mulch available on a first-come, first-served basis at three locations across the city:

  • Bowling Lake Park (NW. 48th and W. Cuming St)
  • Fleming Fields (31st St and Leighton Ave)
  • Holmes Lake Park (Parking lot #5, 70th St. and North Shore Dr.)

This mulch comes courtesy of city forestry crews, who collect lumber scraps during routine trimmings. Contrary to what some may assume, this mulch was not made from branches or trees felled by recent storm damage.

Parks Operations Coordinator Mike Comstock says this mulch is ideal for decorative purposes, such as home landscaping, around trees, and in garden beds.

The mulch will be available in piles at these three locations. Residents are welcome to stop by and load up as much mulch as they’d like. The city does not have equipment on site to assist with loading.
