Nebraska Democrats Cast Delegate Votes for Harris-Walz

Nebraska Democrats are representing the state this week at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Illinois.

Chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party (NDP) Jane Kleeb appeared along side other prominent NE-Dems Tuesday night during a delegate roll call, casting all 34 delegate votes for Vice President Kamala Harris and her VP pick — Nebraska native — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird was in attendance, and gave a shout out to the capital city when handed the microphone during the roll call.

“…and the quality of life capital of the county, Lincoln. Capital of Husker Nation, where the Biden-Harris team and unions are rebuilding the heartland,” said the state’s highest-ranking elected Democrat, within the packed United Center Arena.

“…and Omaha, know its actually known as ‘Kamaha’ but we protect the blue dot,” said NDP Executive Director Precious McKesson, referring to the 2020 electoral outcome of Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional district going to Joe Biden — an outcome Nebraska Republican Gov. Jim Pillen sought to avoid in 2024.

“We are ready for it! Nebraska proudly casts our 34 votes for Kamala Harris and coach Tim Walz,” said Chair Kleeb.

Lancaster County Commissioners Christa Yoakum and Sean Flowerday could be seen during the roll call. State Senator Terrell McKinney of Omaha was there with a few candidates for higher office — namely State Senator Carol Blood, running for Nebraska’s 1st congressional district, and U.S. Senate candidate Preston Love, Jr.

Other local party officials like Michael Marcheck (chair of the Stonewall Democrats caucus) and Hannah Wroblewski (Lancaster County Democrats Chair and state party Voter Engagement Director) also joined the NE delegation on their trip to Chicago.
