The Parks and Recreation Department says the storm debris collection site at Woods Park is still open after LFR crews were called to extinguish a fire early Tuesday morning.   It’s not known how the fire started but Parks Director Maggie Stuckey-Ross is thankful for the quick response of firefighters.

“Many have utilized our debris drop off sites after the July 31 storm. Parks and Forestry crews continue to work at condensing the collection sites while other staff are addressing each of the 1,000-plus reports of tree issues. We appreciate the community’s support and patience.”

Three debris collection sites will remain open through August 19 and residents may deposit storm debris at no cost at Star City Shores, Woods Park and Oak Lake Park.  The Parks Department offers free wood chip mulch on a first-come, first-served basis to residents at Bowling Lake Park parking lot at NW 48th and West Cuming streets, Fleming Fields parking lot at 31st and Leighton Avenue and Holmes Lake Park.

Grinding operations will continue at the Holmes Lake site and then move to Woods Park.  When grinding is completed at Woods Park, crews will then move to Oak Lake Park. Crews are expected to begin hauling tree debris Wednesday from the Seng Park site to Star City Shores collection site.
