Lancaster County Begins Mailing Early Vote Applications

By Chase Porter Aug 5, 2024 | 12:37 PM

Exactly three months (91-days) till the November 5th general election — the Lancaster County Election Office has begun sending early vote by-mail request forms to 64,000 Lancaster County voters on the Permanent Early Vote By-Mail Request list.

Voters on the list should expect to receive the blue postcard-size forms in their mailboxes within the next few days. Voters who do not receive an early vote by-mail postcard may obtain the request form on the Election Commissioner’s website at lancaster.ne.gov/election or contacting the election office at (402) 441-7311.

Voters may also request an early vote ballot be mailed to them by submitting a letter with all the required information to the Election Commissioner.

In addition to providing their name, address and signature, voters must also include either a Nebraska Driver’s License or State ID Number; a photocopy of another valid photo identification; or a reasonable impediment certification. For more information about Nebraska Voter ID requirements, visit voterID.nebraska.gov.

Completed and signed applications or letters may be mailed to the Election Commissioner’s office or dropped off at any drop box location listed below:

  • Election Commissioner’s Building, 601 North 46th Street
  • Anderson Branch Library, 3635 Touzalin Avenue
  • Eiseley Branch Library, 1530 Superior Street
  • Gere Branch Library, 2400 South 56th Street
  • Walt Branch Library, 6701 South 14th Street

A scanned copy or a readable photo of the completed and signed form may also be emailed to the office at: earlyvote@lancaster.ne.gov.

Monday, September 30th will be the first day early vote ballots will be mailed. Election Commissioner Todd Wiltgen said voters should request ballots be mailed to where they will be staying at the end of September.

“I want to stress that the post office will not forward or hold ballots when we mail them out,” said Wiltgen. “They will return them to us as undeliverable. So if voters are going to be away from their home at the end of September and early October, and they have a hold or a forward on their mail, they should provide us with the address where they’ll be staying so we can mail their ballot to their temporary address.”

Wiltgen said, during May’s primary election, 110 ballots were returned as undeliverable.

The deadline to submit a request for an early vote by-mail ballot for the General Election is Friday, October 25th, at 6:00 PM.
