A pair of Lincoln City councilmembers want to stay on for another term.  Tom Beckius and Sandra Washington both announced their intentions on Tuesday.  “In my second term, I’ll continue to work to keep families safe, address affordability of housing and ensure tax dollars are used effectively and efficiently to save taxpayers money, Beckius says”

He says public safety remains his top priority. “We have moved the needle in important ways over the past three years. We have added positions and increased wages to both the Lincoln Police Department and Lincoln Fire & Rescue to keep our neighborhoods safe.”

Washington was elected to the Council in 2021 after having previously been unanimously appointed to fill the vacated at-large seat due to the election of Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird in 2019. “I am compelled to continue my service to Lincoln, Washington says.

“Our work is not done. Lincoln is a great city. We treasure the quality of life here, and I remain committed to ensuring our neighborhoods are safe and strong, our economy keeps growing and providing opportunities for everyone to provide for their families, and Lincoln continues to be a place where everyone is welcome.”

Washington says she is proud that since her time on the Council the city has prioritized public safety by investing in police and fire services, infrastructure, including $167 million in street improvements.

She says significant progress has been made in affordable housing with the addition of over 2,100 units.
