Dangerous heat is on the way this weekend and LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman has some advice on staying cool and preventing heat related illnesses. “If you can enjoy the pools in town or your own pools. You can find cooling stations at public libraries, the malls, public spaces that have air conditioning.”
Lierman says make sure you check on elderly neighbors and never leave kids and pets in cars, even for a short period of time. If you do have to be outside Lierman says drink plenty of water. ” A lot of people who work outside may think they are used to it, but in these temperatures if they are not prepared and well hydrated they might have heat exhaustion and heat stroke.”
An Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for Sunday and Monday. Heat indices will approach 110 in southeast Nebraska. Saturday will also be extremely hot with temperatures around 95 degrees.
