A Lincoln man will spend decades in prison after being sentenced on Monday for the shooting of a Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services case worker last September near 7th and Y Street.
Lincoln Police say two case workers were responding for a child welfare check in a State of Nebraska vehicle. They were on the grass in front of the home when police say 38-year-old Brent Lopez opened the front door and fired several rounds from a handgun.
One case worker was shot in the leg and has recovered. The other worker was not injured. A judge sentenced Lopez to 25-42 years in prison for first-degree assault, attempted first-degree assault and two counts of using a firearm to commit a felony.
Prior to the shooting Lopez had lost his job at the Air Par Rec Center for his involvement in a fight with teenagers.
