The Lincoln Police Department has released the results of a school zone traffic safety project conducted May 8 through May 22.

The campaign assigned additional officers to school zones throughout Lincoln to enhance traffic and pedestrian safety. Officers watched for traffic violations such as speeding in school zones, driving past school bus stop arms, and noncompliance with seat belt laws.

Total results are as follows:

  • Official Citations issued – 195
  • Traffic stops conducted – 175
  • Warnings issued – 59

Funded by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation-Highway Safety Office, the project assigned additional officers in school zones to enhance traffic and pedestrian safety during the last few weeks of school.
