Lincoln Police say three teenagers were apprehended after a crash near Monday morning. LPD says a 2016 gold Ford Focus was reported stolen from the area of 22nd and ‘D’ Streets and had been taken sometime between midnight and 5 a.m.
The owner reported it stolen around 5:45. About two hours later officers were sent to 2nd and ‘D’ Streets for a rollover crash. The car ended up striking a tree in the front yard of a house. “Witnesses saw three people exit the vehicle and run away on foot,” says Public Information Officer Erika Thomas. ” When officers arrived, they tracked the suspects to ‘C’ Street between S. 9th and S. 10th where they were taken into custody without incident.”
Thomas says a 15-year-old Lincoln boy was behind the wheel and was referred and booked for theft by unlawful taking, leaving the scene of an injury accident, possession of burglar’s tools, theft by unlawful taking, minor in possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, no operators license and willful reckless driving.
LPD says a 13-year-old passenger was referred and released for theft by unlawful taking. An 18-year-old Lincoln girl, who was also a passenger, was referred and booked for aiding and abetting theft by unlawful taking.
The vehicle sustained $5,000 in damage and was totaled.
