In an effort to keep the roadways safer troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement Division conducted local commercial vehicle inspections in Lancaster County on Wednesday. Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas there were 25 vehicle inspections conducted and troopers issued a total of 22 citations.
Troopers found 81 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law. “Troopers also placed 11 vehicles out of service, meaning they were not allowed to return to the road,” Thomas says. Vehicles are taken out of service for a variety of reasons, including bad brakes or tires or other problems that pose immediate safety risks.
Two drivers were placed out of service. One didn’t have a CDL license and the other was driving with a revoked license. Troopers also issued 13 CVSA decals during the inspections. They indicate that the vehicle did not have any immediate safety issues. Wednesday’s local inspections focused on commercial vehicles that might not travel outside the city or pass-through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.
