A house in the Capital Beach area was gutted by fire around 11:30 Tuesday morning. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says smoke and flames were coming from the home near Capital Beach and Surfside Drive when crews arrived.
“It was spreading pretty rapidly to the whole back side of the house and the garage and extending into the living area.” She says two vehicles parked near the garage also caught fire. Three residents were able to get out safely and call 911.

Lierman says someone was doing some metal work inside the garage and some of the shavings caught some flammable items on fire, including a gas can. It took crews about 25 minutes to bring the fire under control
She says it’s likely the home is a total loss. The three residents were relocated by the Red Cross.
