By Tom Stanton May 15, 2024 | 3:04 PM

The Nebraska Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run arrived in Lincoln Wednesday afternoon.  Runners carried the torch from the University of Nebraska to the steps of the City/County building.

The Lincoln Police Department, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department and employees from the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office laced up their shoes and took part in the run.   During a ceremony over the noon hour Police Chief Michon Morrow welcomed the runners and athletes from Lincoln.

“To our athletes, you remind us that with perseverance and a positive spirit we can do anything we set our minds to.  We will always be your cheerleader.”  The statewide torch run raises money and awareness for Special Olympics Nebraska and the more than 6,000 athletes who have an intellectual disability.

The torch now heads to Omaha for for the 2024 state summer games.  The final Torch Run will take place during Opening Ceremonies on Thursday.
