Big Ten Champions Week Games Set: Nebraska at Rutgers Friday

By News Dec 13, 2020 | 1:41 PM

The Big Ten Conference announced Sunday the matchups for the Week 9 Champions Week games.

Nebraska (2-5) heads to Rutgers (3-5) Friday afternoon for a 3 p.m. kickoff. The matchup is Nebraska’s first with Rutgers since 2017 and just the fifth all-time meeting between the schools. Nebraska holds a 4-0 edge in the series, including a win at Rutgers in 2015.

The Huskers are coming off a home loss to Minnesota, while the Scarlet Knights just beat Maryland in overtime. Rutgers has former Nebraska quarterback and Bishop Neumann grad Noah Vedral leading the charge. Vedral, who left Saturday’s game with an ankle injury, has thrown for more than 1,200 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

The Big Ten elected to not go with East vs West matchups exclusively, allowing Minnesota-Wisconsin and Michigan State-Maryland to make up their games that were canceled earlier this season. Other Champions Week games include Illinois at Penn State, Michigan at Iowa, and Purdue at Indiana.

The Big Ten Championship game of Ohio State and Northwestern will be played Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
