A frightening situation for a Lincoln family Wednesday afternoon. LPD Captain Todd Kocian says police were called just before 4:00 on a possible home invasion. He says a man was at work when he got a call from his wife’s cell phone number.
A coworker then called police saying the man was headed home after receiving a call from an unknown man who said he was holding his wife and child hostage. “The unknown caller also threatened harm if the victim didn’t tell him where he kept their money,” Kocian says.
Officers arrived at the home to find everyone safe and sound and determined the phone call was a scam. “The victim reported the caller ID on the original phone call was the same number as his wife’s phone.
Phone spoofing scams have been on the rise across the country.
