Helms Leaves Husker Women's Basketball Team

By News Dec 9, 2020 | 3:34 PM

Less than a week into the season and Nebraska women’s basketball is down a player.

Sophomore guard Makenzie Helms is no longer on the team, having left the program “for personal reasons”, according to a release from the team. Helms had appeared in both games this season, averaging five points in 13 minutes a contest.

“We wish Kenzie well in her future endeavors,” Nebraska Coach Amy Williams said. “Our team is looking forward to opening Big Ten play against Illinois on Thursday.”

Helms made the announcement herself on social media hours later, saying this year has made her “rethink priorities” and that she “will be pursuing another opportunity” closer to her family as she enters the transfer portal.

Nebraska begins conference play Thursday, hosting Illinois with a 7 p.m. tip.
