The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an unusual theft case.  Captain Jon Vik says it began when the parents of a Waverly High School student reported their son’s track shoes had been stolen from his locker overnight Monday.

“And they needed some shoes for an event that was coming up so the parents had gone to Play It Again Sports in Lincoln and got what they thought was a different pair of shoes for their child,” Vik says.

“Upon bringing them back they actually found out that was their child’s shoes.”  Vik says a school resource officer did a follow up investigation and found out the shoes were stolen by a 29-year-old  night custodian.

Vik says they also recovered other stolen items, including five pairs of athletic shoes, a pair of sandals, lunchbox and a chef’s knife.   The total loss was $350.  Vik says the custodian was cited for misdemeanor theft.
