LFR Crews Extinguish Burning Mattress in South Lincoln Apartment

By Chase Porter Apr 8, 2024 | 11:43 AM

A smoldering mattress drew Lincoln and Fire Rescue (LFR) crews to an apartment in the area of South 10th and Lake Street this morning.

Battalion Chief Jim Bopp told KLIN News, crews arrived around 8:30 a.m. and entered the apartment unit to find a moderate amount of smoke.

“We had a mattress that was burning in there. Fortunately, we got a quick knockdown on it,” said Chief Bopp.

While searching the apartment, LFR crews could not located the tenant or anyone else in the unit.

“The surrounding apartments are relatively unaffected. There was some light smoke, I believe in the one next to or above. That’s all been cleared out at this time,” Bopp added.

A fire investigator is determining the cause. The tenet of that apartment is the only person who needs to be relocated.
