Lincoln Police has released the names of the two officers who were involved in a shootout with a 45-year-old man at the Casey’s near the airport. LPD says officers Cale Neely and Brian Gruber responded to the store on NW 12th Street around 8:45 Tuesday night.
Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says 911 calls indicated Michael Glaser had come in looking for his ex-wife, but she was not working that night. He placed a gun on the counter and when the two officers arrived he fired at them.
Officers Neely and Gruber returned fire. A Nebraska State patrol trooper then arrived on the scene and Glaser exchanged gunfire with the officers a second time. He was struck in the chest and taken to the hospital.
He was treated and released and then taken to jail. He is facing 11 felonies, including false imprisonment, terroristic threats and attempted assault on an officer. A judge set his bond at $1 million. Officer Gruber has been on the force nearly five years and Officer Neely joined the department eight years ago.
