The man who was wounded during a shootout with law enforcement officers at the Casey’s Store on NW 12th Street Tuesday night is out of the hospital and in a jail cell. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says 45 year-old Michael Glaser of Lincoln went to the store looking for his ex-wife.
“It was domestic related. It was not a robbery that went wrong,” Houchin says. “It was from a relationship Michael had with an employee who was not there.” Lincoln Police Chief Michon Morrow says Glaser entered the store and laid a gun on the counter. An employee and an arriving customer were able to call 911. When officers arrived Morrow says Glaser fired shots at them and they returned fire as two employees sought shelter in a room.
More law enforcement officers arrived, including a Nebraska State Patrol trooper. “At that time the suspect again fired with officers returning fire striking the suspect in the chest,” Morrow says. Glaser was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries and then was transported to jail.
He was booked for two counts of attempted second-degree assault on an officer, use of a weapon to commit a felony and two counts of false imprisonment. Houchin says two LPD officers and a Nebraska State Patrol trooper remained outside the business as they exchanged gunfire with Glaser.
Houchin said they recovered a short shotgun at Glaser’s home while serving a search warrant.
